I just got a great question on our help desk (https://evergreensupport.co) and I thought I would share it and the answer with everyone as I have found these sort of questions pop up every now and then. I hope it helps you and if you like, feel free to add your comments or questions below.
Yoast SEO Question
- Hi, I have a website for my business and I am trying to understand the best way to optimize it. How many keywords can or should I use, does the title of my page make a big difference for the search engines or does the keywords that I have listed link me to be higher on the search engine. Also how long after you put your keywords does it take for you to start showing up on the search engines. Thanks for you help in advance.
Jessie

- Hi JessieThe best method for on-page SEO is to target 1 main keyword per page (that is relevant to the content of that page) you can add variations and related keywords as well, but the focus should be on creating value for the user and high quality writing. Google can tell pretty easily if you are forcing keywords in the body content of the page. The title is the most important part, you should make the title a readable sentence that makes sense and includes the primary keyword target. Here is a post I made about this: http://evergreenprofit.com/seo/the-importance-of-your-page-title/
In terms of SEO or meta keywords that you add to the page, these do not make a huge difference to your ranking, but I suggest you add 3-5 variations of your primary keyword.
In terms of adding your keyword to the title, URL and heading of your page, this does make a huge difference, but it can take up to a month for Google to recognise the change. This can be sped up by getting links from social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube
The best way to get to the top of the search engines and stay there is to post regular, quality content that helps your target market and promote it by publishing it to social media.
Let me know if you need to clarify anything (I know I sometimes speak SEO jargon) 🙂
Cheers
Justin
