Not any punter, bookie, jockey or trainer…
The racecourse owner.
‘Own The Racecourse’ is a term coined by my mentor James Schramko. It is about maintaining control over your business and marketing assets
Don’t be a horse on someone else’s course.
So what does this mean in practical terms?
Don’t base your business on a Facebook page, Ebay store, Wix or Weebly website or some custom CMS owned by your development company.
Because that places your business at their mercy, and it can be expensive, hard work to change.
By using a popular, open-source CMS to base your website on, like WordPress. You have complete control.
If your developer goes out of business or dies, your business is not affected, and if you don’t like his services, you can easily find another.
Then you can use several marketing ‘horses’ to bring customers to your ‘racecourse’ website.
P.S. don’t let your web designer buy your domain for you. And if you are not sure, go to Whois.com right now and check that it is registered in your name with a current contact email. (but not the same email address as the domain itself).
